Acting is the effort of an actor, a person in theatre, film or any other storytelling medium who tells the story by portraying a character and, usually, speaking or singing. Acting began because of the man's need to express and to tell stories. From the Latin word agere meaning "to do"; word acting has been revealed. In acting, actors expand aspects of their personality in order to reveal the actions and motivations of the character for particular moments in time. The actor at that time assumes the role of character, to make an audience understand.
Actors are generally expected to possess a number of skills, including good vocal projection, clarity of speech, physical expressiveness, the ability to analyze and understand dramatic text and the ability to emulate emotional and physical conditions. Well-rounded actors are often also skilled in singing, dancing, imitating dialects and accents, improvisation, observation and emulation, mime, stage combat, and performing classical texts such as Shakespeare. Many actors train at length in special programs or colleges to develop these skills, which have a wide range of different artistic philosophies and processes.

Acting has found its origins in the religious rituals of the primitive times and the persons first to perform were the religious leaders of the tribes. The development of theater is largely attributed to the Greeks. The definitive record for drama dates back to 534 BC. There was a contest to choose the best tragedy of the year. Here the acting abilities of all the contestants were tested. A dramatist called Thespis was the winner, who has also been credited of being the first actor. Moreover the term "thespian" came from his name. He played all his roles to perfection at that time that ranged from women to children. Sorrowfully none of the writings of this actor survived.
In those times, the actors wore masks to portray different characters. At the outset, their interaction was only limited to the chorus that ranged 10- 50 people. Acting in the beginning was just about monologues with actors enacting out the thoughts going on in the mind of the character. Aeschylus introduced a new pattern to acting introducing the second actor. After his performance acting got resemblance that we see today. The performances underwent a huge change from simply stating the internal voice, thoughts and motivations of a single actor in face-to-face conversations as well as dramatic conflict. Afterward, Sophocles added the third actor and extras.
Progressively more changes were added and acting evolved to its present form. But basics of acting never changed like what requirements of making of a good actor. The talent of the actor is chief determinant in the acting of the performers. Actors are born with a quality. Acting is all about the ability to visualize feelings and presenting them.
